Prepare for life in Canada Post-Landing

IELTS General Training is a test that you can take to support your application for immigration to Canada, whether you want to apply through Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program, or one of Canada’s many other economic class immigration routes.

The Test

IELTS General Training focuses on the language and formats that occur most frequently in ordinary life, just as the IELTS Academic test focuses on the academic language students need to flourish in higher school.

  1. Listening

To adapt into any new setting, we must first understand what is being told to us. These aren’t often controlled test environments; instead, they belong to a less predictable world of harried bus drivers and impatient merchants, or new bosses and quick-talking newsreaders.

As a result, the IELTS General Training Listening component requires test takers to understand and respond to dialogues and monologues. To better reflect actual life, these samples are recorded in a variety of accents and in a variety of social settings.

  1. Reading

We all read on a daily basis, whether for pleasure, information, or job. Reading is a very’safe’ way to absorb information without feeling pressured or compelled to answer, and without having the material tainted by accents. The better we get at it, the less difficult it becomes.

Reading, on the other hand, is a collection of skills. We usually skim read, mentally summarise the content, hunt for specifics, or try to grasp an author’s point of view while we read. All of these skills are tested on the IELTS General Training Reading test, which includes books, periodicals, newspapers, notices, advertisements, company handbooks, and guidelines. You can prepare for real-world reading by engaging with various types of literature.

  1. Writing

Life in Canada frequently requires you to express yourself in writing. You may need to apologise for missing a gathering, express dissatisfaction with a terrible experience, or offer counsel to someone. You may be required to prepare a cover letter for a new job. When you write, it’s crucial to get the tone and structure just right—you’ll be more likely to elicit the response you want.

These are the kinds of situations you’ll encounter in Task 1 of the Writing test in IELTS General Training. In the meantime, Task 2 teaches you how to debate in writing, including all the many styles and conventions for expressing yourself on topics like school, cell phone usage, and how to make the world a better place. It’s a terrific talent to master in a progressive country like Canada, where you’re never far from a debate on these topics.

  1. Speaking

Speaking is perhaps the ability you’ll utilize the most in Canada. Because Canadian communities are often open and kind, speaking is likely to be the most useful ability. Furthermore, speaking fluently and accurately is critical to the speed with which people assimilate into any new society, laying the groundwork for mutual respect and understanding.

The face-to-face component of the IELTS Speaking test is virtually legendary, and it has long been regarded as a legitimate test of conversational ability around the world. Simply preparing for this human connection results in a clearer, more natural speaking style, which has been shown to aid people’s adaptation to English-speaking contexts.
